This past week when I did my wash n go I was finger combing my hair in the shower and noticed that some of the strands felt bumpy. With a closer examination I realized that they are really single strand knots also known as fairy knots. Ugh!
My hair has been growing out nicely and I'm really starting to enjoy my length and then POW! I'm hit with these knots that can't be combed out, they can only be cut out! Now, I don't believe I have a lot of fairy knots, but I have had to trim a few out every day this past week.
I have been using my jojoba oil mixture every night and maybe I need to revisit my night routine and tweak somethings. Does anyone have some suggestions? What do you do to prevent fairy knots? Until next time...
Blessings!
I don't know of any way to stop these. I always thought they were a fact of life for very curly hair.
ReplyDeleteI assume that you suffer also from these knots. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteOh those fairy knots ...
ReplyDeleteI always keep things stretched out by using twist-outs, but no matter what you do you can't eliminate fairy knots, you can only minimize them. I have yet to try wash and goes but I know that you can get tangles easily because you're letting your curls free, and thus you're probably more likely to experience the knots. Naptural85 has a great wash and go method that doesn't involve wet hair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enUiD7anUEY&feature=relmfu
Hope that helps :) Her method seems like it would lessen tangles because the curls aren't wet and then left to dry and tangle up throughout the day.
Thanks for the video I'll check it out.
DeleteYes! Down with the fairy knots! But Curlilocks is right (cute name, by the way!!), there is really nothing that you can do to stop these. I have found that aloe vera gel and/or heavy moisturization helps to minimize snagging and the hair's desire to curl up onto itself but those little buggers . . .
ReplyDeleteI love aloe vera gel, maybe I need to use it more often.
DeleteI'm with precious...I keep my hair stretched out and I never go to bed without putting my from in braids.
ReplyDeleteMy hair is not long enough for me to braid or twist without it taking a lot of time. Thanks for the suggestion I will try braiding/twisting in the future.
DeleteWho said...your hair is more than long enough to braid. You need to start practicing:)
Deleteoops "FRO" not from
ReplyDeleteWould you believe as long as my hair is I dont't get them at all!
ReplyDeleteI've gotten them in the past but I keep my hair lubricated with Jamaican Black Castor Oil on the ends, Jojoba oil on the strand and I also use Doris of NY Olive Cream (love this stuff. I also trim my twists every 6 mos or so.
I'm not willing to do a trim yet, but I love my jojoba oil maybe I need to use more.
Deleteoh i am sorry! i use to get them...i do a leave in and gently comb through the knots!! ;0
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing also, but I still notice these little knots.
