My Hair Regimen

Let me begin with that I am new to the natural hair world.  I decided to go natural in March 2011 and started to read everything on natural hair.  I came across Teri LaFlesh's web site.  I loved her simple method so much that I ordered her book "Curly Like Me".  Anyway, her method seemed so easy that I literally went through all my hair products and threw away the products that I decided I would no longer use (ingredients on the bad list).  So, I ditched a trash bag full of "bad products" and went out and got a Denman brush and a big bottle of Aussie Moist conditioner.  So, here is what I do now since my BC (big chop) August 8, 2011.  I also read Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey and I found out that I really kinda combine these two methods.  If you learn anything from me I hope that you learn that you must figure out what works for you!
Products I'm using this summer.

Wash n Go Co-Washes up to 3 times a week in the summer:
1. Co-Wash with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner.  I have added castor oil, jojoba oil, rosemary oil, and peppermint oil to Hello Hydration.  I make sure that I rinse all the Hello Hydration out after I detangle.
2. I like to finger detangle in the shower, or use a wide tooth comb, sometimes I use my Denman brush to give my curls a different look.  Of course I have lots of conditioner in my hair when I detangle.
3. With hair still wet, I apply a large handful of Aussie Moist or my Mop Top daily conditioner.  I don't rinse the conditioner out!  That's right I use them as a leave in.
4. I sometimes apply some of my It's Perfectly Natural Root Food to my "problem area" that thinned out when I last relaxed back in March 2011.
5. Depending on my mood and time, for styling I might use some Mop Top Leave It In conditioner, Eco Styler or Mop Top Medium Hold Gel to define my curls.
6.  I accessorize with flowers, hair bands, clips or whatever I fancy.  I love flowers!  They are my favorite.

Before adding my leave in conditioner I will gently pat my head with a micro fiber towel to keep the water from dripping down my face.  At this point I am using no heat on my hair.

Once a Week (Usually Saturdays):
1. Follow all the above steps stated above, but adding shampoo with Mop Top Gentle Shampoo before I co-wash.  I focus mostly on my scalp, but with my limited length my head tends to get a good scrub.

Every Other Week:
1.  Deep condition with Mop Top Deep Conditioner after I shampoo.  While in the shower I will apply the deep conditioner to my hair, then I put a shower cap on my hair and let it sit while I wash and shave my legs about 15 minutes, detangle, then I rinse most of the conditioner out leaving in a little.  I do this only every other week because Mop Top has protein and my hair doesn't like a lot of protein.

Oils:
I probably wouldn't mix any oils if I didn't have my thinned out spot on my crown that resulted from my last relaxer March 2011.  For regrowth, I like to mix Jojoba oil with a few drops of rosemary and peppermint essential oils.  I also use Castor oil and I have added all of these oils to my Hello Hydration and Aussie Moist conditioners.  I have only added Jojoba, rosemary and peppermint oil to my Mop Top daily conditioner.

Daily:
On June 4, 2012 I started to take Viviscal hair supplement twice a day.  I will be taking this vitamin for the next 3 months and I will post my results in September 2012.  If I get some new growth in my thinned out spot then I will continue with this supplement.

To refresh my wash n go in the morning I like to spray a little warm water on my hair, if needed I will add a little more conditioner.  At night I sleep in a silk scarf to protect my curls.

So basically I use Mop Top.  I love these products!  They have no silicones, sulfates, or parabens and the owner Kelly is a curly headed girl who wanted a way to control frizz.  Click here if you are interested in purchasing Mop Top products.
